Ford announces three-cylinder low-CO2 engine for Fiesta ST

The all-new Ford Fiesta ST will feature a 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost engine, emitting just 114g/km of CO2, when it goes on sale in 2018. The 200PS powertrain can accelerate the city car to 60mph in 6.7 seconds while still delivering strong efficiency, thanks to cylinder deactivation technology. There’s no word on pricing yet but the Fiesta ST is expected to cost slightly more than the outgoing model at around £19,000. The current Fiesta ST uses a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine which emits 138g/km of CO2 – putting this performance focussed model well out of reach of many fleet drivers. With the new powertrain on board the Fiesta is likely to gain appeal from user-choosers looking for something a bit more exciting than the average hatchback. It’s not just the engine that’s been upgraded. For the First time in a Fiesta selectable Drive Modes are fitted – enabling engine, steering and stability controls to be configured to Normal, Sport and Track settings for an optimised fun-to-drive experience in conditions from motorways to track days. Drive Modes will also adjust the Fiesta ST’s Electronic Sound Enhancement technology and active exhaust noise control valve to deliver an even more satisfying driving experience. Three- and five-door bodystyles will be available and all ST’s will get 18-inch alloy wheels and Recaro sports seats.
